Talk about mountains! There are no foothills in front of the Tetons, they just rise up from the valley floor. Incredible, you never grow tired of seeing them, and they present a new look every day. I took lots of panorama shots, trying to catch as many mountains as I could, to try and convey the scene. I failed, but you can imagine what it really looks like, and you would be way off! You have to see it to believe it.

- My Hike to Lake Solitude, 9000 ft elevation (19 miles, 2700 ft. height difference from Jenny Lake Visitors Center). A nostalgic repeat of the hike I took over 30 yrs ago during my 6 month leave of absence from Bell Labs. This is my favorite hike in the world, even though I had done it only once before. It is entirely different from seeing the mountains from the front - you are behind the front peaks and can see the rest of the interior mountains from Cascade Canyon and the canyon to the lake. Fabulous, and well worth the effort!
Side note : I talked to a Ranger on the way back from the lake and asked where all the moose went, and he said they seemed to be hiding this year. 3 hrs. later, I had run into 5 (not literally)! What luck.

- My hike to Amphitheater Lake, 9698 ft elevation (10.1 Miles, 3000 ft total climbing). It is up all the way from the beginning, with beautiful views of the valley and of the Tetons from the interior. I even caught some climbers on video. I took a side trail into Garnett Canyon, but it got a bit dicey for me and I turned around.
